Newsletter No. 1 – November 2007

Dear Friend

The Steering Group met on 15th October, with a successful initial meeting, at which it was agreed that we should set a membership fee of £5 annually for FHS.

This is on a par with other such “friends” groups, and would simply go towards covering postage/stationery costs and special events such as the proposed Christmas screening (see below). If you wish to pay the membership, would you please detach the slip at the bottom of this letter and return to:

as soon as possible. If anyone feels they would like to contribute more, that would be welcome! It is necessary to have some small “funding pot” to keep the group going.

We have arranged with Hull Screen that a special, members-only night will take place on THURSDAY 13th December, when we shall show the film “Miracle on 34th Street”. Starring Richard Attenborough, this is a quirky film with a Christmas theme, and has a twist in the tale! The screening will start at 7.30 pm, and will be preceded by a social hour or so, from 6.00 pm, when mince pies and wine/soft drinks will be served in the adjacent exhibition area. Tickets will be at a special price of £3.50 for this members' event. We do hope that you will be able to come to this event, as it is a chance to meet each other socially and exchange ideas.

The Steering Group will meet monthly, and is continuing to explore the way forward for the Screen. We are encouraged that Diana Johnson, M.P. For North Hull, is keen to support FHS and Hull Screen, and very much wants to see an Arts Cinema set up in the city.
