KINGSTON UPON HULL FILM THEATRE AGREEMENT

BETWEEN The Lord Mayor Aldermen and Citizens of the City and County of Kingston upon Hull (hereinafter called “the Corporation”) by JAMES HAYDON WOOD GLEN, their Town Clerk and duly authorised agent, and the British Film Institute (hereinafter called “the Institute” by Vernon Saunders.

1. THE Corporation having constructed and equipped their Library Theatre at a cost of approximately Thirty-three thousand five hundred pounds the Institute shall contribute the sum of Six thousand one hundred and twelve pounds towards this cost in respect of the use of the Library Theatre for the purpose of the Kingston upon Hull Film Theatre.

2. (a) THE purposes of the Film Theatre shall be (i) to encourage interest in the film as an art and as a medium of information and education; (ii) to promote the study and appreciation of films by means of lectures discussions and exhibitions. (b) The Film Theatre shall be non-political and non-profit making.

3. THE Film Theatre shall be under the direction of the Corporation acting by the Council of the said City and County as Library Authority who shall consult the Institute on technical and general matters connected with the showing of films.

4. AN Advisory and Programme Planning Committee may be established to which appointments shall be made by the Corporation and the Institute such committee to be advisory only.

5. THE Corporation and the Institute each guarantee to pay a sum not exceeding Nine hundred and fifteen pounds in any one year to meet any loss which may be incurred in running the Film Theatre and this guarantee shall not be reduced except by twelve months’ notice from either the Corporation or the Institute.

6. THE Film Theatre shall not be wound up except by twelve months’ notice in advance from either the Corporation or the Institute.

7. NO alterations in the terms of this Agreement shall be made except by the joint consent of the Corporation and the Institute.
